Keith in 3D by paulrich Keith in 3D by paulrich
First drew and named this creature back in 2005.
Rendering the hair takes a lot of computing... We'll see if I can manage to rig and animate it with all that fluff.

Created in Blender

What technique are you using for the hair?

Well, I used the Blender Cycles hair simulation.  I used weight paint to create the 2 different colors.  They are 2 different particle systems.  Having 2 separate particles systems for the 2 different hair colors was a major pain and made everything look really patchy rather than a striped pattern like I had intended.  So I'm going to redo the hair using a black and white texture paint image to separate the 2 colors in one particle system.  If any of that made sense...

It makes sense and I can see why the render times are taking so long to do. It's a particle system and those are almost always hard to do on your usual home PC. The effect works great with a full render farm, but even then it can still take several hours to do.

I'm surprised you aren't using textured objects that are layered across the body to get the same effect.

Yeah, I am just a self-taught hobbyist.  Started playing with this stuff a year ago.  Thanks for the comments.
